About the work

Original James Swinnerton comic strip featuring Little Jimmy and the Canyon Kiddies, dated 4-22-35 (King Features Syndicate, 1935). This desert adventure finds the assembled youngsters confronted with an unappetizing meal.

Ink on Strathmore Bristol Board. Strathmore embossed seal upper left corner of board (under mat). Housed under non-reflective museum glass with UV protection. Overall very good condition.

A star player in the Hearst cartoon empire, Swinnerton (1875-1974) recovered from a bout with tuberculosis in 1906 by moving from New York to the fresh-air climates of California and Arizona. The locale inspired Canyon Kiddies, a lasting feature that dovetailed with Swinnerton's signature strip, Little Jimmy.
