About the work
This original drawing with artist’s signature & cipher was created on a blank page between the front cover and title page of “Olaf Wieghorst” by William Reed, published 1969. There is no text on either side of the page with the drawing. Condition is very good.
Acclaimed by critics as the outstanding contemporary Western artist, Olaf Wieghorst (1899-1988) spent a lifetime observing, handling and painting horses and scenes of the Old West.
“Olaf Wieghorst” tells the artist’s story while on duty with the 5th U.S. Calvary on the Mexican border, working as a cowboy, serving as a member of New York’s mounted police, and above all becoming a remarkable creator of cowboy culture on canvas. With its 33 color reproductions, the book provides a pictorial and narrative account of a man dedicated to the West and its heritage.
